Abstract

An extremity dosimeter using thermoluminescent dosimeters was developed for practical measurement of beta and gamma doses. This dosimeter is composed of three TL elements and some filters. The TL element is CaSO4 (Tm) thin disc and the structure is a type of finger ring. The performance characteristics of this dosimeter was studied by irradiation data of standard sources.Minimum detectable amount of this dosimeter is about 100mrem for both beta and gamma rays in the mixed radiation field. Also β-ray maximum energy could be estimated by the ratio of the thermoluminescences measured by two TLD discs in this dosimeter. This extremity dosimeter has been used in routine personnel monitoring since 1979 in PNC Tokai Works.
