Abstract

Influence of water level distribution on sediment properties in a river entrance were investigated by field experiments and numerical analysis. The water level distribution in the river entrance depended on tidal current and wave height, and the groundwater salinities varied with the water level distribution. The numerical analyses on two dimensional seepage flow along the river entrance were conducted. It was found that the water level gradient and the thickness of aquifer were the dominant factors of seepage flow direction and groundwater salinity fluctuation according to the results of numerical analyses.
