Abstract

We propose fabrication method of artificial muscle fiber actuator. Natural skeletal muscle tissue has the ability as linear actuator. To mimic high-dense and oriented muscle fibers, we fabricate artificial gel fiber containing muscle cells as a bioactuator. Gel fiber containing muscle cells was continuously fabricated by microfluidic device. Fabricated gel fiber was performed Poly-L-Lysine coating and degradation of sodium alginate gel by immersing into sodium citrate solution. Subsequently, gel fiber containing muscle cells was cultured in growth medium and was performed fluorescent staining in 7 days of culture. Consequently, a part of muscle cells grew along gel fiber. This result represents achievement of anisotropic artificial muscle fiber. Furthermore, as external stimulation for muscle cells, we applied electrical stimulation via gold wire electrode. We observed rhythmical muscle contraction synchronized electrical stimulation until 2Hz.
