Abstract

This paper deals with a new experimental method for analyzing the relative height of succesive cutting edges in the grinding process. The technique makes it possible to calculate the relative edge hight by comparison of the impulsive signal from the small thermo- electric junctions which are so arranged with a short spacing in a grinding path that the individual abrasive grains cut them in grinding. The smaller diameters and distances of wires prepared and the more number of wires contained, the higher accuracy of the measurment is obtained. The results are as follows : (1) The number of effective cutting edges per unit time depends upon the positions in contact zone between wheel and test piece as the result of univenness of height of cutting edges.(2) The relative height of the effective cutting edges distributes within O. 5 ft and the distribution is influenced by grinding times of the wheel and table speed.
