Abstract

This essay intends to exhibit some of the aspects of postmodernism in music. Postmodernism less frequently becomes a current issue in music rather than the plastic arts. As modernism is used to describe the artistic movements of modern times, such as impressionism, experssionism, surrelaism and avante-garde, postmodernism is used to determine the practices and forms after modernism. Postmodern theorists claims that a postmodern society has been established because of the technology and communication facilities; hence they assume present time as postmodern age. Postmodernism, as a complex concept, effected music as much as it effected the other art forms. After modernism, a new aesthetic occured with the new behaviours of the artists, correspondingly these new behaviours created a very colourful art environment. Postmodern age, assumed by the postmodern theorists, brought a great diversity in music. Postmodern behaviours beneath the diversity is discussed by some specific examples and postmodern attitudes are foccussed in this essay.
