Abstract

The first time I read Superfluous Words was in Yanan. Comrade Luo Fu [Zhang Wentian] spoke to me about it and said that some comrades believed the work most likely to be counterfeit. I then went to the library of the Central Propaganda Department and borrowed the journal that contained not only the work but also a description of the circumstances of Qu Qiubai's death. As I read the memoir it was as if I was looking at Qu Qiubai himself. I fully believed that it was written by him. (Of course, the possibility that the enemy had tampered with it could not be excluded completely.)
