Abstract

MXenes, incredibly quickly developed two-dimensional (2D) materials such as carbonitrides, metal carbides, and nitrides with a wide variety of possible applications, have sparked a lot of attention in recent times. MXene has a hydrophilic nature, electron richness, abundant surface terminations, a large specific surface area, and an abundance of highly active surface sites. Adsorption of various contaminants such as dyes, heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides by MXene shows a demonstrative property. Since the adsorption study of MXene is continuously increasing, this review discusses the recent advancement of adsorption in the removal of various pollutants. A depth discussion of various contaminants reduction with the help of surface modification like alkalization, acidification, and intercalation has been described in this study. In this paper, mechanism and chemical kinetics are also added. Finally, the future perspectives for the young and dynamic researchers are addressed in this review.
