Abstract

The article discusses selected issues from the philosophy of music that Mirosław Żelazny addressed in his works. These problems, discussed many times by outstanding music theorists and philosophers, will always raise a number of doubts. An example of this statement is the definition of music, which has been formulated many times in subsequent centuries, and yet, each of them still raises many doubts. Harmony, which can be understood in two ways in music, will also always provoke questions about the relationship between the science of combining chords and the harmonious character of the entire work. The numerous doubts concerning the ontological status of a musical work are another unresolved, or perhaps insoluble, issue. And finally, there remains the problem of understanding music as a transcendent entity, especially considering its profound content. All the problems mentioned above receive many new possibilities of understanding thanks to the remarks that can be found in the works of Mirosław Żelazny.
