Abstract

Benzene meta-diamine derivatives have long been used as hair-dyeing agents. Two benzene meta-diamines, 2,4-diaminotoluene and 2,4-diaminoanisole sulfate, have proved to be mutagenic in Drosophila melanogaster (Blijleven, 1977). Another derivative, 2-(2′,4′-diaminophenoxy)ethanol was evaluated for mutagenic activity in the sex-linked recessive lethal test in Drosophila melanogaster. More information about this compound can be found in the papers of Sobels (1982) and Kalopissis (1981). As a positive control, 2,4-diaminoanisole dihydrochloride was used.
