Abstract
A time-of-flight mass spectrometer with two sets of parallel-plate electrostatic fields (PPEFs) to reflect ions multiplying during flight was designed and constructed. The principle of operation and the resolving power of the mass spectrometer have been described. Performance of a prototype mass spectrometer of this design with a 20-cm field-free space between the two sets of PPEFs has been shown from the mass spectra of Li, K and Rb. The mass resolving power of 3570 for 85Rb has been obtained.
