Abstract

Multilocus enzyme electrophoresis (MEE) using starch gels has been widely used to study bacterial genetics and for epidemiological typing. We describe a technique using ultrathin polyacrylamide gel eletrophoresis (PAGE) which gives improved resolution and reproducibility, decreasing the number of gels which have to be run. We also describe a technique whereby several enzymes may be developed from a single running gel, resulting in significant time savings.
