Abstract

In this paper an average multi-level representation of power electronic converters is used to design a dynamic model of a Super Capacitor Bank for a microgrid application. A dedicated multi-level modeling is designed to quantify energy variations in storage elements (super capacitors, DC bus) and various losses. We demonstrate that this model is sufficient to design the control system of the entire power storage system, meanwhile the super capacitors, the chopper and the grid connected converter. The proposed global model is simulated with the help of Matlab-Simulink by considering two units of 48V 144F super capacitor modules.
