Abstract

Groundwater Monitoring & RemediationVolume 3, Issue 4 p. 34-40 MULTILEVEL GAS-DRIVE SAMPLING OF DEEP FRACTURED ROCK AQUIFERS IN VIRGINIA Describes the installation techniques and cost savings associated with this type of sampling equipment Matthew J. Barvenik, Matthew J. Barvenik With B.S. and M.S. degrees lfiom Northeastern University and MLT., Matthew Barvenik has more than eight years of professional experience. As a senior engineer with Goldberg-Zoino & Associates, he has managed numerous instrumentation, geotechnical and geohydrological projects, including slurry-wall supported-tunnel excavations, hazard-ous-waste investigations-containment and custom laboratory and field instrumentation design As principal with BarCad Systems Inc., he has consulted nationwide with respect to state-of-the-artsampling of contaminated soils andground water. Barvenik's most recent work involves design of laboratory leachate permeation procedures and field instrumentation for evaluation of soil/bentonite cutoff wall containment systems.Search for more papers by this authorRichard M. With BA. and M.A. degrees in geologyfrom Brown University and the University of Texas at Austin, he has seven years of experience in hydrogeological aspects of ground-water contamination studies. As a former senior hydrogeologist with environmental consulting and geotechnical engineering firms, he has designed and managed numerous studies in rock and glacial aquifers nationwide. He recently completed instullation of a continuous, ground-water level/temperature monitoring system that incorporates a satellite link to provide a real-time data.
