Abstract

New comprehensively integrated, model and simulation based, and intellectual property driven way of product engineering which also serves fundamental, problem specific, and product specific research motivated a new concept called as multifunctional engineering space (MES). The MES concept was defined as new bridge which connects industrial product engineering processes, activities to reuse industrial practice and experience, research programs, and higher education courses. MES utilizes great achievements in communicative virtual engineering methodology during the past decade of new century. In this paper, MES relevant issues of current engineering modeling are surveyed and concept of MES is introduced. Following this, concept of virtual engineering space (VES) based MES is explained. Models for virtual space, intellectual property representations, and model object organization environment are detailed. Next, sector specific configuration of MES is introduced using means available in industrial engineering systems. Sector specific MES specification and content and examples for patterns and their selection are discussed.
