In reality, however, the number of tuberculosis patients admitted annually to Nkqubela Chest Hospital represents less than 2% of the annual tuberculosis case load in South Africa. Also, Nkqubela Chest Hospital forms part of our national tuberculosis drug-resistance surveillance programme, which has been conducted since 1965 by the MRC National Tuberculosis Research Programme, and our results from this hospital are quite different.
