Abstract

In this study, a combination of Geographic Information System (GIS) and a Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) method were used to select the most desirable place for wind farm construction. Furthermore, a techno-economical assessment was performed to construct an on-grid hybrid energy system including the wind turbine, diesel generator, battery, and converter in a desirable location. The decision criteria of this study were divided into four main categories, including technical-economical, environmental, climate, and topographical, alongside 11 sub-criteria. These sub-criteria were wind speed, proximity to transmission lines, proximity to road and railway networks, distance from high load demand areas, distance from land cover, distance from protected areas, distance from rivers and water bodies, distance from the airport, the slope of the terrain, elevation, and distance from the fault. Based on the results of the first section, Izadkhast city in Abadeh county was selected as the most desirable location for wind farm construction. In the second section, an on-grid hybrid energy configuration composed of 26 wind turbines, a 500 kW diesel generator, 43 battery units, and a 574 kW converter with cos of energy, net present cost, and renewable fraction equal to 0.0719 $/kWh, 12.3 M$, and 60%, was chosen as the optimum structure for supplying electricity of Izadkhast city.
