Abstract

A formal treatment of multi-component intrinsic solid solution softening and hardening is presented. The proposed equivalence model agrees with extensive literature data on ternary solid solution softening and hardening in molybdenum at different temperatures. This agreement lends further support to the hypothesis that solid solution softening in Group VIA metals is an intrinsic phenomenon dominated by the electronic structure.
