Abstract

The major goal of this work is to diminish the area control error, settling time, undershoots and overshoots, and frequency variations in multi area power systems. The optimal design of PID controller gain is to be automatically adjusted for different loading conditions. Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) and Redox Flow Battery (RFB) are incorporated into the proposed system to obtain better dynamic performance for different operating scenario. The settling time of GWO based PID controller is improved to 10% and 30% in area-1 is compared to PSO and GA based PID. Similarly, the settling time improved to 17% and 19% in area-2 and 29% and 60% in area-3 compared to PSO and GA. Also, the peak undershoots of frequency in area-1 for GWO, PSO and GA based PID controller are -0.058, -0.068 and -0.072.
