Abstract

Herein, a newly developed CuO-Au composite was successfully decorated on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and employed as an electrochemical sensor. The developed nanocomposite (CuO-Au/MWCNTs) was dispersed on the surface of glassy carbon electrode (GCE) to produce CuO-Au/MWCNTs/GCE. The characterizations of nanocomposite was examined with the help of field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry (EDX) and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) techniques. The sensor showed promising electrocatalytic activity towards the individual and simultaneous determination of Acetaminophen (AC) and 4-Aminophenol (4-AP). The sensor showed good linear response for AC and 4-AP in the range from 0.2 μM to 6.0 μM and 0.5 μM to 1.6 μM with detection limits of 0.016 μM and 0.105 μM respectively. The sensor showed potential applications in evaluating kinetic parameters. The practical application of the developed electrochemical sensor was verified in pharmaceutical formulation and human serum sample successfully.
