Abstract

Ultra-narrow track perpendicular magnetic recording of submicron track width was studied. Basic experiment for read/write performance showed that C/N ratio of low density single exceeds 30 dB, in addition, D50 of 100 kFRPI is attainable by using a dedicated read head. The head field distribution of a single pole head causes this sharp track edge recording. The potential for nesrly 10 Gbytes disk drives with a 3.5 inch disk was estimated with this narrow track recording and inherent high linear density.
