Abstract

In this study, the electro discharge machining (EDM) operation was performed with varying four major independent controlling parameters, i.e., pulse on time (Ton), duty cycle (Tau), discharge current (I), and gap voltage (GV) with Cu-MWCNT composite coated 6061Al electrode. The machining performance, such as EWR and MRR, were evaluated for each of the experiments. The Taguchi L9 orthogonal array was adopted for conducting experiments, and polynomial regression model was utilized to develop a relationship between input and machining responses. The MOPSO is a very useful technique to achieve optimal solutions from the multi decision criteria. This technique was utilized to find non-dominated solutions and formed the Pareto frontier. The TOPSIS was applied to find the most desirable solution from the Pareto optimal set. Based on the TOPSIS analysis, the optimal solution was found to be Ton = 14 µs, Tau = 6%, I = 3 A, and GV = 50 V. The confirmation test satisfied the predicted results.
