Abstract

In nodal analysis parameter estimation consists of the approximation of measured frequency or impulse response functions by an analytical expression. After reviewing the general formula of frequency response functions and equivalent impulse response functions of a multi degree of freedom system based upon general viscous type of damping, briefly advantages and drawbacks of known parameter estimation methods are discussed. A short theoretical introduction is given of two newly developed methods, the “Global System Parameter” method and the “Direct System Parameter Identification” method. Experimental results using these methods in which the aspects of optimal number of modes and global system parameters are included, are discussed in the final section.
