Abstract

This paper will assess the possible advantages of using multi-channel voltage contrast spectrometers in place of conventional retarding field spectrometers in electron beam test systems. The comparison is based on calculating the signal-to-noise characteristics of both spectrometers types. Experimental results on a time-of-flight voltage contrast spectrometer are used to confirm the theoretical predictions made.
