Abstract
Acousto-optic diffraction with multiple acoustic waves in water is examined to realize multi-channel modulation of an optical beam. Ultrasound, operating as a diffraction grating, is generated via a mode conversion from a surface acoustic wave (SAW) on the free surface of a piezoelectric plate. The operation principle and practical result are described for two independent signals in the Bragg regime. This is supported by experimental measurement.
