Abstract

The war breaking out with North Korea's attack on South Korea on 25 th June 1950 and North Korea’s passing beyond the 38th paralell accepted as the border between two countries, expanding a wide community of states also with UN and China's involvement; is known as Korean War in history. When the war broke out, the Democratic Party was heading the Turkish Government and the government’s most challenging mission was the KoreanWar. The Democratic Party responded positively the UN’s call for help for South Korea and Turkey got involved in the war ,too. After the government’s decision to send troops to Korea, the Turkish soldiers fought; were captured, wounded and became martyrs outside their own countries, in other lands for the first time. In this study, an evaluation on Korean War has been done based on the interviews with the veterans of Mugla-Milas War Veterans Association. In the introduction part of the study, Korean geography and the overall condition before the war were mentioned briefly. In the first part, the information about Turkey’s involvement in the war was given. In the second part of the study, the information about the Battles of Kunuri, Kumyang-ni,Vegas-Karson and Elko; in the third part, the information about the Armistice, Turkish Soldiers’ Returning to Turkey and Turkey’s Membership of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) were given and an objective study of oral history was tried to be carried out in the light of the memories of veterans fighting on these fronts. This study is of great importance for articulating what the veterans experienced, under what conditions they struggled and what they felt on Korean domain.
