Abstract

Fethiye is not only considered a tourism destination, but also in the field of handicrafts it is the most important district of the province of Mugla. Weaving of kilim is the preeminent craft within locally made handcrafts. The aim of this study was to examine Fethiye yantirli kilims weavings in terms of materials used, size, colours, designs and patterns characteristics and trying to explain flatweaving tradition in the region. For this purpose, the villages and towns that still weave kilim were determined. It was determined that known by the name of yantirli kilimwith the technique of weft faced flat kilim have been woven currently for both common use and for dowryespecially in Fethiye district, Seki town and in the villages of Atlidere, Arsa, Dodurga, Demirler, Kayadibi and Alacat. Villages and towns in Fethiye dealt with in weaving kilim are the nomad settlements that the main source of livelihood is agriculture and livestock. Generally rugs are composed of mats such as base, half base and runner or rugs. Fethiye yantirli rugs are rare specimens that are peculiar to the specific characteristics in colors and patterns.
