Abstract
Three honorable men from Perast, Nikola Burović, Nikola Mazarović and Andrija Balović, have contributed to oral literature in the form of oral poetry. These three manuscripts have already been printed and will be the subject of this thesis. We will focus only on a piece of their work, the male songs about honor. These three corpuses were published in the previous years, and they are building a new path in literature. The presenters of these manuscripts point out that there are „fifteen corpuses of oral literature, kept in the archives in Montenegro and Croatia“ (Pjesmarica Nikole Mazarovića, 2018: 5). This would be useful in the times of interest towards the past of oral literature, in order to be seen and consumated by the greater public. The songs about honor cover a geographical area of the Montenegrin coast which was an important territory for the development of the oral tradition. Thanks to the scientific and cultural sensibility of individuals, a part of that heritage still exists to this day in the material form. The thing revolves around the heritage that has been kept from the eyes of the public for centuries. It was available only to those who studied them, and they would selectively display some parts of it to the public. Now, it is presented as a whole, just as it looked in the past. In this thesis we will describe the nature, the atmosphere and poetical characteristics of the male songs about honor, which are a part of the mentioned manuscripts and describe the relationship between a man and a woman.
