Abstract

This study deals with the work entitled ‘Muhammad Sharif al-Husaynī al-Alawi and Hujjat al-Zakirin Li-Reddi’l-Munkirin’. In this study, the copy in Süleymaniye Library, Reşid Efendi, No: 372 has been evaluated. The work covers topics such as Yassawism, Ahmad Yassawī, Ahmad Yassawī’s caliphs, dhikr, Yassawīism and Naqshībendism. Muhammad Sharif al-Husaynī al-Alawi and Hujjat al-Zakirin Li-Reddi’l-Munkirin is one of the important sources on Yassawism. The author of the work, Muhammad Sharif al-Husaynī al-Alawī, was both a Yassawī and a Naqshībandī sheikh. Hujjat al-Zakirin Li-Reddi al-Munkirin consists of an introduction, three chapters and a tetimme. In this study, the subjects and chapters of the work are introduced in detail. In his work, Muhammad Sharif al-Husaynī al-Alawi explains dhikr, hafi dhikr and especially dhikr by making use of ayat, hadith and different works. The information given in Muhammad Sharif al-Husaynī al-Alawi and Hujjat al-Zakirin Li-Reddi’l-Munkirin has been evaluated and expanded with different sources. As a result, the author’s work and its content have been evaluated in the context of Yesavism and Naqshībendism. The author’s tariqa lineage reaches to Suleiman Bakirgani, known as Hakim Ata, the caliph of Ahmad Yassawi. When the author’s tariqa is taken into consideration, the relationship between Yassawism and Naqshîbendî tariqa is conveyed around the subject of dhikr and the work has an important place in terms of following this relationship.
