Abstract

Olivier Guyotjeannin, Frertch metrology before the Revolution : a summary guide. Historical metrology looks at first a rather boring science, due to the complexity of the ancient systems of measures. Nevertheless it has undergone for the last ten years, both internationally and in France, a renewal which tends to transform it into a part of the history of mentalities. Besides the historiographie évolution, a systematic critical bibliography, as proposed in this article, permits a first approach to the various aspects of metrology : general bibliographies and studies, specialised studies, and ail kinds of sources, linguistic, iconographic, scientific, «utilitarian», and archival.
