Abstract

Background and Aims: Macrophages have been recognized as pivotal players during atherosclerosis formation. Recently it has been shown that oxLDL induces a long-term pro-inflammatory response in monocytes, an emerging new concept called trained innate immunity. Here we have analyzed the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in regulating this proinflammatory priming.
