Abstract
Mössbauer studies in uncoloured and coloured 57Co diffused KBr and KI single crystals are reported. The observed spectra have been found to be unusually complex due to the presence of inhomogeneous hyperfine fields. Attempts have been made to computer analyse these spectra to get some information about the ionic characters and defect structures of iron impurity ions. Additive colouration of crystals significantly changes the ionic characters and the defect structures.
