Abstract

Hypothalamic extracts from frog, rabbit, kitten, sheep, pig, and man were found to increase the melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH) content of rat pituitary glands. Frog hypothalamic extracts also lightened frogs previously darkened by removal of the hypothalamic region. The results indicate the presence of MSH-release inhibiting factor (MIF) in the hypothalami of frogs and several mammals.
