Abstract

Energy consumption, transmission delay and throughput are key factors of routing in wireless sensor networks, which are relevant to channel assignment at MAC layer. This paper proposes a joint routing protocol considering requirements of MAC layer and routing layer. At MAC layer, we evaluate the channel quality via local channel load, based on which we present a Prime Frequency Hopping algorithm (PFH) and Optimal Prime Frequency Hopping algorithm (OPFH). At routing layer, Dynamic Joint Routing (DJR) algorithm is proposed, which chooses multiple paths as transmission paths taking path length and channel assignment result into consideration. Simulation results show that OPFH can effectively improve the frequency hopping success rate. Moreover, the proposed dynamic joint routing algorithm based on OPFH has excellent performance in term of transmission delay and energy consumption.
