Abstract

Newly established 2020 criteria define refractory, persistent, and biphasic anaphylaxis; however, there are limited data on the incidence of these subtypes, particularly for anaphylaxis secondary to food allergy. While receipt of ≥2 epinephrine doses and delayed epinephrine administration during treatment of anaphylaxis increase risk for biphasic anaphylaxis, preliminary data indicate that a food allergy trigger decreases risk for biphasic anaphylaxis.
