Performance ImprovementVolume 40, Issue 2 p. 18-21 Article Motivation = goal + control Jim Hill, Jim Hill James.Hill@corp.sun.com. Jim Hill is the Director of eMersion for Sun Microsystems. He joined Sun in 1998 after retiring as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. During his military career, Jim commanded a wide range of organizations and served in both Southwest Asia and Somalia. He is a graduate of The Ohio State University and holds an MA from Webster University, an MBA from Averett College, and a doctorate in Educational Psychology and Human Performance from the University of Southern California. He presents and writes on the issues of strategy ethics, leadership, and organizational performance and is a contributing author to Performance Interventions: Selecting, Implementing, and Evaluating the Results (ASTD, 1999). Jim is the recipient of the 1998 Outstanding Performance Aid Award from the International Society for Performance Improvement and was elected to that organization's board of directors in 1999.
