Abstract

ABSTRACTA series of experiments regarding the deposition of Ti powders on an aluminum substrate with different inlet temperatures, stand-off distance, and gun speed allowed to study the relation between these factors and the morphology of the coating. A suitable geometrical approximation of the coating profile was then found and used, together with the mass balance of the deposition process, to write a relationship between the coating cross section and the process parameters. The proposed equations are expected to be useful in a manufacturing environment for predicting the coating parameters from the process conditions and ultimately to optimize the deposition.
