Abstract

SUMMARYThe structure of the male reproductive system of the red bollworm, Diparopsis castanea (Hmps.), is described: it is typical for a Noctuid. After day‐old male moths had been injected with dosages of the chemosterilant tepa ranging from 10 to 50 μg, no impairment of the gross function of their accessory gland apparatus resulted, and spermatophores of normal size were transmitted during copulation. Microscopic examination of testicular preparations demonstrated no gross damage following treatment, and the sperm was motile. The injected males were nevertheless completely sterile.
