Abstract

Sabkha is spread along the Libyan coast and varies in its forms and sizes. Coastal sabkha is an important and influential morphological phenomenon that can contribute to the development of coastal areas. The aim of this research is to identify the characteristics of the Alkoz Sabkha, to identify how they originate, their water sources and environmental factors affecting their origin and to reach their pros and cons to benefit from them in the development of the region, both in terms of agriculture and in the development of the infrastructure of roads and industrial facilities. The study shows that there are a number of factors that affect the composition of the sabkha soil and its physical and chemical properties. The effect of these factors varies according to the general conditions of the sabkha. 2017 (30.18 hectares) showed that the total area of sabkha decreased by 4.8 hectares, as a result of the intervention of the human factor in the region and the decrease in precipitation.
