Abstract

A study was made of PE monofilaments crystallized in matrix from a partially oriented melt containing a highly oriented crystalline phase. Electron microscopic examination showed that the structure of specimens formed by such crystallization is heterogeneous and contains differing long periods. The dimensions of long periods determined using an electron microscope and replicas of specimens etched innitric acid and in a high frequency gas discharge were 300±50 and 500±50 Å and were in satisfactory agreement with results of X-ray analysis (280 and 520 Å). They were found to be evenly distributed in the filament section.
