Abstract

The condition for stable growth is defined in terms of the chemical potential gradient ahead of a growing crystal, and this criterion proposed is applied to solute crystallizatin with a thermal and an electrical driving force, respectively. Stable growth in electrocrystallization requires a high solute concentration and a large electrochemical potential gradient at the crystal-solution interface. The practical attainment of stable growth and the results of instability are considered.
