Abstract

AbstractIn this study, TiO2 nanostructured materials (nanotube (T‐NT), nanofiber (T‐NF) and nanosphere (T‐NS)) were prepared via the hydrothermal method, characterized, and comparatively tested for surface OH density, charge mobility and in the photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline (TC). Results from the N2 sorption experiment and the pore size distribution shows that the materials are mesoporous with good Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area ranging from 127–274 m2/g and pore volume. T‐NF exhibited the best photocatalytic performance having a rate constant 0.0025 Lmg−1 min−1, which is 1.6, 5 and 6.3 times higher than T‐NT, T‐NS, and amorphous TiO2 (T‐AM) respectively. The outstanding performance of T‐NF over the other materials is due to its relatively low charge transfer, higher crystallinity, and higher surface OH density which reacts with h+ to form OH•.
