Abstract

Ten groups of 6 rats each were exposed continuously to a mixture of dichloroacetylene-ether (4.8 ppm and 33 ppm) for periods up to 28 days. Animals were serially sacrificed in a time-course study for observation of the onset of morphologic changes in the kidney. Histopathologic examination indicated a progressive change in the epithelium of the proximal convoluted tubules of the kidneys, limited to the corticomedullary area, which consisted of a proportionate increase in nuclear and cytoplasmic mass. The cytomegaly is occasionally observed at 14 days and common at 28 days. Data indicated a substantial depression of weight gain.
