Abstract
This study identified the pathogen causing leaf blight in cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis) in Jammu and Kashmir, India. Infected leaf samples were collected, and the pathogen was isolated using tissue bit technique and cultured on potato dextrose agar (PDA). Pathogenicity tests confirmed its ability to reproduce symptoms. Cultural and morphological characterization revealed a light brown to olivaceous brown colony with conidia exhibiting significant diversity. Molecular analysis of the ITS region showed a 99.09% similarity to Alternaria burnsii. This represents the first report of A. burnsii infecting cauliflower in the region, highlighting the need for accurate pathogen identification to inform disease management strategies. The sequence was submitted to GenBank under accession number PQ119820.
