Abstract

Moringa, botanically Moringa oleifera L., commonly referred to as miracle tree or horse radish tree is a tropical crop which can be cultivated in tropical and subtropical climates due to its quick adaptability to drought and frost conditions. All the parts of moringa plant possesses human value. Apart from its pods being used as a vegetable, its tender leaves, rich in vit A are used as greens, in salads, in vegetable curries, as pickles and for seasoning and also for animal fodder (both fresh and dry fodder). Moringa crop with its vast and multi dimensional uses is undoubtedly a boon to mankind. There is a need to specify and classify the importance of moringa. With this objective,the present review is aimedto emphasizeon the nutritional and medicinal importance of moringa and also its resilience to the vagaries of nature, which makes it a profitable enterprise even under dryland conditions with very limited resources.
