Abstract

A few years ago, I attended a meeting about the environmental studies program at our college, and I had the occasion to ask a group of six or seven of my non-geoscientist colleagues to make a list of all of the environmental issues that they could. I intended to use their lists to point out how central the geosciences are to the critical environmental issues facing society so that I could argue that all students who major in environmental studies should be required to take at least one geoscience course.
