Abstract

Regardless of the geometry of the part being pro duced, three types of implicit bases may be distin guished: 1) a surface; 2) a line; 3) a point. The surface (symmetry plane) and line (symmetry axis) are most common. In contrast to the surface and line, the point may play various roles, such as the following: (1) the center of a part with a single surface (a sphere); (2) the vertex of a complete or truncated cone; (3) the point of intersection of two or more symmetry axes of cylindri cal surfaces inclined at some angle; (4) the point of intersection of the symmetry axes of two cylindrical surfaces with the central symmetry plane of a part (corresponding to various real surfaces); (5) the point of intersection of the central symmetry axis with explicit or implicit perpendicular planes.
