Abstract

Perthes-Legg-Calve Disease is an aseptic osteochondrosis of the hips in children resulting from a perfusion disorder of the femoral head epiphysis in which genetic factors play a decisive role. The disease follows a typical course that runs for years. The most important prognostic factors are age, mobility, decentralisation and lateral calcification. The objective of treatment is to preserve joint congruence and mobility and, in cases of deformations, reestablishment of joint congruence (containment). Therapeutic options available for containment treatment are either conservative with physiotherapy and limited orthotic management or surgical involving intertrochanteric and pelvic osteotomy.
