Abstract

If one peruses current literature in social studies education, one cannot help notice the renaissance of interest in moral education. A few years ago, the National Council for Social Studies considered values education' of such importance to the field that it devoted an entire yearbook to the subject.2 More recently, social studies educators have expressed an avid interest in Lawrence Kohlberg's theories of moral development and how these theories can be utilized for teaching about moral dilemmas within the classroom.3
