Abstract

Abstract NTp Monte Carlo simulation has been used to obtain the excess volume of an argon(Ar) + krypton(Kr) system at 115.77K and zero pressure. The results were analyzed based on the concept of free volume for molecules and the results of the van der Waals one-fluid theory. We found that the free volume change on mixing and excess volume are strongly correlated linearly and that the behavior of the excess volume for an Ar + Kr system is mainly influenced by the behavior of the free volume change on mixing for the argon molecule. Especially, the asymmetric behavior of the excess volume for the Ar + Kr system with respect to the argon mole fraction was examined.
