Abstract

Background and Aims: C-reactive protein (CRP) can dissociate into monomeric subunits (mCRP) in proinflammatory milieu. The ability of mCRP to accumulate in atherosclerotic plaques and stimulate inflammatory response may enhance the progression of atherosclerosis. The aim of this study was to find whether novel mCRP or high-sensitivity CRP (hsCRP) assays correlate with plaque burden in non-obstructive asymptomatic carotid atherosclerosis (ACA).
